We hope everyone enjoyed our Thanksgiving holiday feast. All of your children worked very hard preparing foods and their centerpieces for the holiday. Our message for the holiday in our classroom was, "when someone is helpful we are thankful" This message as you may have noticed is an ongoing theme for us. Since the beginning of our school year we have been focusing on caring for and sharing with our friends. In our message for Thanksgiving we spoke with the children about different ways we can be helpful to one another; helping a friend open their lunch, giving someone a hug to help them feel better. We wanted to expand on our original focus to incorporate manners, to make sure the friend who has just helped us is made aware of our thanks. What better way to do that then on Thanksgiving. We will be continuing our message with the upcoming Chanukah curriculum. Part of our big message for Chanukah is Mitzvot, which we are learning is when you do something nice for someone else.
We have been working on our history binders with the children this past week and a lot of the children have made a point to talk about pictures of themselves doing something, like sharing with, or helping out their friends.
We have also continued with letter recognition and numbers. I am happy to say each one of your children can recognize and point out the first letter of their name in the alphabet on the wall in our literacy center. We will continue to expand on this throughout the school year.
SKILLS FOCUSED ON:
- letter recognition
- measuring
- manners
- counting to 10 with a matching dice and dot
game. One child rolls the dice and matches
the dots on the dice with the corresponding
dots on a puzzle piece.
- size comparison
- weather terminology- everyday we refer to our
"weather bear." Our weather bear is on a
magnetized board where we dress him
according to the current weather.
- sharing and waiting our turn
