At Zimmer we celebrate the coming of Shabbat weekly. The children bake challah every Friday, learn the specific blessings and share this special time with their friends. Once a year we invite families to join their children in celebrating and enjoying a traditional Shabbat evening: home made food, family, friends and of course singing!
Tu B'shvat- The New Year for Trees is celebrated in style at Zimmer Preschool. The children learn about trees as part of G‑ds design for the world. They help us in many ways including providing food, shade and wood. Our children honor the holiday by holding a Fruit Feast! Our Pre-K creates a "shuk," a marketplace of delectable fruit for the children in school. They wash and prepare the fruit and serve their friends. We all look forward to the event and thank G‑d for providing such a happy occasion for us to enjoy!
Purim! The holiday celebrating a strange turn of events and Jewish redemption in ancient Shushan (Persia) is a favorite holiday at Zimmer Preschool. The children hear the story, see it played out in puppet theater and then act it out themselves! We eat delicious hammantachen cookies, exchange shalach manot packages and rejoice in Esther and Mordecai’s victorious adventure that saves the Jewish people. Purim comes alive in our classrooms as well, with each classroom having a designated palace area, complete with royal regalia, a throne and an exotic ambiance. Nothing is like Purim at Zimmer!

After Purim the children begin to prepare for Pesach. At Zimmer, Passover preparations include learning about matzah (we bake our own at the Chabad Matzah Factory), maror and charoset. Classrooms are transformed into scenes from ancient Egypt and the children experience the preparation for making a hasty exit from Egypt and starting their trek through the desert toward Mt. Sinai and ultimately Eretz Yisroel.
